ALAN L. - EXECUTIVE PRODUCER . DIRECTOR

Alan, a highly skilled creative professional with extensive experience in film and TV production. Passion for developing compelling film, documentary and television projects. He got his bachelor degree in Hong Kong and certificate on film directing at NYU and London Film Academy which brought his creative vision to life across continents.

With an innate knack for storytelling, his dedication to crafting thought-provoking narratives has been met with numerous accolades, notably including the Silver Lucite Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2007. Alan's ascent in the world of cinema reached new heights with his debut feature film, "The Cube Phantom," a project that earned the honour of being selected for the renowned International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in 2020. This selection reaffirmed his status as a director with a distinct and impactful cinematic voice. Beyond his feature work, Alan's involvement in documentary filmmaking has added another layer of depth to his career. As one of the cinematographers of a notable documentaries like "Joshua: Teenager VS. Superpower" have resonated with global audiences and earned the prestigious World Cinema Audience Award at 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

His latest opus, "Rather Be Ashes Than Dust," stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to pushing creative boundaries. Serving as the director, cinematographer and editor, this film has been selected for competition in different film festivals around the world.

NANCY TONG - EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Nancy M. Tong has been making documentary films since 1977. Upon graduating with honours from Canada’s York University, she returned to Hong Kong and worked as a documentary producer for television. In 1981 she arrived in New York City and became an active member of the Asian American film community. She held key positions on documentaries broadcasted on American television networks such as ABC, PBS, and HBO. Her credits include Associate Producer of the Academy Award nominated documentary Who Killed Vincent Chin? (1989), Co-Producer of the Peabody Award winner Cancer: from Evolution to Revolution, Director of In the Name of the Emperor (1998) which was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and Producer and Director of Trailblazers in Habits (2013) which was aired on ABC network in November 2014. She also managed the New York production of award-winning Hong Kong feature films such as Mabel Cheung’s An Autumn’s Tale (1986), and Clara Law’s Farewell China (1990). Some of her work is on permanent exhibition at New York’s Museum of Chinese in America (MoCA). She is the writer and editor of 《1937: Nanjing》published in 1995. Since 2000, Tong has been teaching documentary film production at City University of Hong Kong and University of Hong Kong. She also conducted documentary film master classes in Iran, Pakistan and Indonesia. She is currently consultant and advisor to a new generation of documentary filmmakers in Hong Kong.

RAJAN KATHET - LINE PRODUCER

Rajan Kathet is a Nepal-based filmmaker. A graduate of the European Masters DocNomads, he is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents 2017 and a Global Media Makers Residency 2021/22. Rajan's first feature documentary, "No Winter Holidays," premiered in the International First Feature Competition section of Sheffield DocFest 2023 and had its Asian premiere at DMZ Docs 2023. Winner of the NATIVA Award at Alternativa Film Awards 2023 in Kazakhstan, the film is a recipient of the DMZ Docs Industry Fund, the HAF/WIP Documentary, and HAF Goes to Cannes Award. It was also a finalist at the Whickers TV & Documentary Pitch 2020. His short fiction, "Bare Trees In The Mist (2019)," was screened at several international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival 2019, Tampere Film Festival, HKIFF, KIMFF, Encounters Film Festival and Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia.

Rajan collaborates with national and international filmmakers through his production company Salpa Films. He has worked on the projects such as the feature documentary “After The Snow melt” by Yi-Shan Lo (Taiwan) and the TV documentaries "In the Land of Machines" by Heo Chul-nyung (South Korea), "Home Street Home" by Alan Lau for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), and "A Himalayan Endgame" by Deepak Chaturvedi (India), all of which are in post-production.

Rajan is also engaged in film education and mentors young filmmakers through his involvement in local film schools and filmmaking workshops. He regularly contributes to the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (kimff) DocLab.

 

YIN TSO - SCRIPT WRITER

Yin's multicultural background has profoundly shaped her approach to storytelling and scriptwriting. Her journey took a transformative turn when I pursued her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology in the United States. This experience not only broadened her horizons but also deepened her understanding of human nature and character.

With over 15 years of experience as a psychologist, Yin has developed a keen insight into the complexities of human behavior and emotions. This expertise allows her to create authentic and compelling characters who resonate with audiences on a profound level. Yin's background in psychology has been instrumental in her ability to delve into the depths of character motivations, conflicts, and transformations, ensuring that each character's arc is both believable and engaging.

Understanding the essentials of creating a successful screenplay is at the core of her work. Yin's well-versed in the fundamental elements of screenplay structure, character arc development, emotional building, and genre conventions. Her script "When Beckham Met Owen" (2005) garnered the Independent Spirit Award at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, showcasing her ability to blend cultural nuances with universally appealing narratives.
